ABOUT THE RESIDENCY
The Foundation of ART NYC presents the Venice Independent Creative & Research Residency 2026, an international residency program designed to support artists, curators, writers, researchers, and cultural practitioners seeking dedicated time and space to develop independent creative or research projects in Venice.
Held during the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, the residency offers participants the opportunity to live and work in the historic center of Venice while engaging with one of the world’s most significant international contemporary art events.
Unlike traditional residency programs centered on communal living or structured activities, this is a fully independent, self-directed residency. Each session accommodates only one resident, providing an environment for focused research, writing, reading, drawing, digital work, and other table-based creative practices.
The residence is located on the main island of Venice, within walking distance of the Rialto Bridge, with convenient access to museums, galleries, libraries, archives, artist-run spaces, and the Biennale venues at the Giardini and Arsenale.

Applications are open internationally to:

- Curators
- Writers
- Art Critics
- Art Historians
- Independent Researchers
- Graduate Students
- PhD Candidates
- Cultural Practitioners
Applications are welcome regardless of nationality, country of residence, age, gender, or race.
The Foundation of ART NYC values diversity and inclusivity. Applications are reviewed based on the quality of the proposed project and its relevance to the residency.
RESIDENCY INCLUDES
The selected resident will receive:
- Exclusive use of the accommodation throughout the residency
- Private furnished bedroom
- Dedicated workspace
- Fully equipped kitchen
- High-speed Wi-Fi
- Washing machine
- Utilities included — electricity, water, and gas
The residency is intended for independent creative and research-based practices. The space is not suitable for sculpture fabrication, large-scale painting, installation production, or other heavy studio activities.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Applications will be reviewed by the Board of Directors of The Foundation of ART NYC based on:
- Artistic or academic quality
- Originality of the proposed project
- Feasibility within the residency period
- Relevance to the residency program
- Professional background and future potential
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This is a self-directed residency. No workshops, public programs, or mandatory activities are required.
The residency fee of €2,000 is non-refundable.
The Foundation of ART NYC does not provide visa sponsorship, invitation letters for visa applications, or immigration assistance. Residents are responsible for obtaining any necessary visas, insurance, travel arrangements, and transportation.
Airfare, meals, local transportation, and personal expenses are not included.
Following the residency, participants may be considered for future exhibitions, research initiatives, publications, residency programs, or collaborative projects organized by The Foundation of ART NYC. Participation in the residency does not guarantee future opportunities.
NOTIFICATION
The selected applicant will be notified individually by email, and the result will also be published by The Foundation of ART NYC.
