Awarded Artist 2026
Kun Sok(Born in South Korea, 1968) is a Brooklyn-based visual artist and writer interested in relationships and collaboration. Her work is informed in part by earlier community development work in Cameroon, focused on education for underserved women and children. She designs simple, rule-based formats that invite artists and non-artists to participate through small, direct encounters. Two hands-on projects shaped this approach: My Right Hand & Your Left Hand, a public cooking performance in which she uses her right hand while each volunteer uses their left; and Paint-Pal, a collaborative painting relay that credits each contributor on the canvas. She also developed Mother–Daughter–New York, a mother–daughter collaboration that uses shared routines and images to explore how two perspectives shape one city. Her writing has appeared in Two Coats of Paint, Tussle Magazine, Hot Coffee Conversation Whitehot Magazine of Contemporary Art.
Education: Diploma in British Studies, University of Oxford; MA in African Studies, SOAS (The School of Oriental and African Studies) University of London; BFA and MFA, School of Visual Arts
