I'm walking alone in the middle of a quiet night.
I like movies directed by Lee Chang-dong. I love Green Fish from 1997, Secret Sunshine by 2007, and Poetry from 2010.
His movie is silent, but at the end, all emotions crash. It was a very strong hit for me.
In the poetry's first scene, a female student's body floats down to the countryside stream, and children who play innocently by the stream find it. The girl was the victim of mass rape by male students of her same age. Mija, the grandmother of one of the boys, is the film's main character. The main character, Mija, takes care of her grandson instead of her daughter, who is out of town to earn money. The grandmother took good care of the grandson but eventually caused problems. Grandmother Mija wants to write poetry, so she enrolls in an academy to learn how to write poetry.
Meanwhile, she finds out that she has dementia. She sold sex to the patient while earning money by working as a caregiver for an older man with a stroke. It was to make a settlement for the wrongdoings committed by her grandson. Throughout the whole process, she continues to write poems with clumsy skills. Finally, she completes the poem and dedicates it to a young female student who died unfairly.
<Anes’s Song>
How is that place
How quiet is it
It's still sunset in the evening
Can you hear the birds singing in the woods
a letter that I couldn't bring myself to mail
Can you get it
Can you deliver the confession that you didn't make
Will the roses wilt as time goes by
It's time to say goodbye
Like the wind that stays and goes, like a shadow
Even the promise that didn't come, the love that was a secret
A grass that kisses my sad ankles
Even the little footprints that followed me
time to say goodbye
When darkness comes, will the candle light up again
I pray
I hope no one sheds tears
How much I loved you so much
I hope you'll understand
That long wait in the middle of summer
an old alley like a father's face
Even the lonely wild chrysanthemum that is shy
How much I loved you
At your little song
How much my heart skipped a beat
I bless you
Before crossing the Black River
With the last breath of my soul
I'm starting to dream
I wake up one sunny morning
with fluffy eyes
I hope I can meet you at your bedside
