Gruesome inspirations
When conflicting images or meanings are combined, and I am faced with a completely different truth than expected, I feel eerie and artistically inspired at the same time. The feeling of being creative is not from something cool that is ordinary and common sense, but when I find something unexpected, my common sense and expectations are broken.
‘Young-hee‘ doll in the Netflix drama Squid Game differs from the ‘Chucky‘ doll in the movie I watched when I was young. Both of them brutally kill people, but ‘Young-hee’ is just a cute little kid, while the ‘Chucky’ doll is creepy and cruel from its appearance. The one who gives people a crueler feeling is ‘Young-hee,’ who is expressionless but looks like a typical little girl. She has no warning and no explanation. She just kills people who fail the game without feeling.
Banksy painted a young child enjoying a snowy day on a garage wall in Wales, United Kingdom. However, he expressed the effect of the pollution caused by steel production on an image, signaling that the eye that entertains the child is a burnt ash. It touches human emotions more intensely than any other environmental poster.
Myra Hindley painted Muder’s portrait using children's handprints, which caused great trouble in society. The kid’s pure hands gave us an immense guilty feeling.
The feeling of hitting the back of the head is also a source of artistic inspiration.
Today, I got inspiration from them.
