Art Market in LA

Frieze art fair LA 2023

It's been weeks since the LA Freeze Art Fair ended. The advertisement for the New York Freeze in May is already underway. In 2023, the Freeze Art Fair LA was the largest ever held. Apart from the shadow of the economic depression and the dangerous security situation in downtown Los Angeles, the art festival at Santa Monica Airport glistened.

As expected, the Gagosian, Perrotin, Victoria Miro, and David Kordanski galleries sold out on the first day of the VIP Open. In particular, all 18 new works released by Doron Langborg (1985), a young author of the Victoria Miro Gallery, were sold out, drawing attention.

Alex Katz's Straw Hat 3 (2021), presented by the David Zwiner Gallery, sold for $1.5 million, and many other galleries sold more than expected, signaling a boom in the LA market. The Hauser and Worth Gallery has opened another space in West Hollywood, even though it already has a gallery in Los Angeles. They had George Kondo's solo exhibition in a new gallery, which sold out all his works, and the Lisson Gallery also opened a new space. In addition, Bonhams, which has a long history and has been auctioning in significant cities worldwide, will open a new space at exposition Park.

With internationally influential galleries opening new branches everywhere, the market in LA, which is already one of the major art markets, is expanding further.
