ART NYC introduces Dan Ji’s solo exhibition Kryptos Series 2. The Kryptos series is a story that depicts the process of the main character Danji in her work in search of his ego and consists of 10 series. In the last series, Kryptos 1, the complex depicted itself in a crowd. Still, this series 2 consists of a story of participating in bad things in society, moving busily without hesitation, and intensely agonizing over its source in nature.
This exhibition by Dan Ji is a series of her Kryptos series and is a process of discovering clues to the source of the main character complex in the painting that she has been curious about. The main character Danji lives peacefully in the animal society, and one day, the story begins with suddenly questioning the source of himself and finding the source. A species that is biologically different from other animals, he had never considered who his parents were or where they came from, but the concern began in the last series. Dan Ji, who realizes that he does not sympathize with others somewhere and shares only learned emotions, begins to question his birth. Where do I come from, and what is the source of existence? The clue may be lurking in the picture. Let's find the story of the birth of the complex together.

Illusion
There was a girl.
The little girl is barely living through the hardships of life.
she sometimes carries a 7kg bucket and has to move 10km three times a day.
And sometimes has to do laundry day and night to make money.
Then one day,
She saw soap bubbles flying while washing the blanket,
She said she wanted to see the other world by flying along with the soap bubbles.
Giraffe, a friend who listens to her, wanted to help her child achieve her dream.
That night, she has a happy dream of meeting her many friends along the soap bubble. Her pleasant imagination of leaving with a giraffe begins.

Dan Ji was born on the small island of Busan, Young Do, South Korea, in 1985. She graduated from Busan National University, South Korea in 2008. When she was 23 years old traveling to Europe. The traveling was inspired by her life and artwork. She met a lot of people with different personalities and philosophies. She thought she can overcome everything by painting herself. After that, she has a solo exhibition ‘Illusion’ in the Buypeong art space in 2013. That works express her dreams impossible to achieve in her real life. She wants to communicate with inaccessible things like powerful, beautiful, and bigger things. In her painting, we can see giraffes, alligators, elephants, and many other big and beautiful wild animals. She plays with them or carries them by snooping like a pet. But It is not coercive she just wants to care for them. We can see the little girl feed to big animals in her painting. Although the little girl is small and not pretty existence she tries to care and comfort for them.
When she was 29 years old she move to Sydney, Australia. There was the perfect area for her art world. She can meet various wild animals such as koalas, penguins, and snakes. Also, Australia is four seasons of nice weather. There is like a paradise for her. She painted her illusion of whatever she wanted to be the strong little girl in her dreams on the canvas.
In 2020, Dan Ji started making the story about her painting with ART NYC. The first one is 'Belong to training'. Another one is 'Illusion'. That two kinds of story based on her daily life and the travels who is of the main character, a little curious girl in her painting.
