Pessoa is one of the leading poets in Portuguese and European literature. Pessoa was born in Lisbon in 1888, lost his father at age five, and moved to South Africa with his mother, who remarried a diplomat, to receive an English education. After returning to Lisbon at 17, he lived alone without leaving the country. In his 20s, he opened a literary magazine called [Orpheu] with his colleagues, setting a new chapter in Portuguese literature. In 1935, after his death at the age of 47, a trunk containing many unpublished manuscripts was discovered and published in several books, including "Lvro do Desasssego," which later became the rank of "national poet." In Harold Bloom's book "The Westen Canon," Pesoa's name was listed alongside Shakespeare, Goethe, Joyce, and Nehruda, and gained fame.
Even though I came to Lisbon to study Pesoa, I unwittingly preferred 'listening across the street.' There were more books about Pesoa on my desk than Pesoa's. Summarizing and listening to a book story through another person is easy and comfortable. Some people take it uncritically and talk to their surroundings, even imitating criticism. I came to Lisbon to erase the fixed image of Pesoa and face-to-face, but this is another book about Pesoa.
